Maastricht Gaels were founded in 2005 and are based at Sportpark West where we use the only full-size, fully floodlit, astroturf GAA pitch in Europe. We play camogie, hurling men’s and ladies football at youth and adult levels.
The idea to start a GAA club in Maastricht originated in a conversation in John Mullins Irish Pub at the beginning of 2005 between Irish exiles, Shay O’Doherty (Tipperary), Chris Marley and Tony Bass (both from Dublin). Since 2019, the club has collaborated with University Maastricht awhere gaelic games are now an official student sport.
Maastricht has been the designated centre for Gaelic games in Europe since 2011 hosting eight Pan-Euro football finals, annual European Premier (15-a-side) Hurling & Football Championships; Benelux regional football rounds and various training and coaching events for Gaelic Games Europe. We also host All Ireland ladies football club championship fixtures when the champions of Europe play teams from Ireland and the UK.
New players are always welcome at our weekly training sessions on Wednesdays evenings and Saturday afternoons. Check our website or social channels for latest info on training times and matches.
