It is with immense pride and pleasure that we celebrate the recognition of one our stalwart members, Mary Gavin.
Mary is the long-time Secretary and founding member of not just The Hague club and but also of the European Board, The President of the GAA, Liam O’Neill, has recognised Mary’s dedication to the cause of promoting Gaelic games, not just in her own city but across Europe by choosing her to be one of this year’s recipient’s of a Gradaim an Uachtaráin/President’s Awards.
Since arriving in Europe over 30 years ago, Mary not only founded The Hague club, but was also central to the establishment of the first ever European Board, she has organised many tournaments and looked after countless Den Haag teams on their travels across the continent and managed ladies football teams on visits to Ireland.
On behalf of everyone involved in Gaelic games in Europe, we congratulate Mary and wish her well and hope that she will enjoy the ceremony. Mary will receive her award at a banquet in Croke Park, Dublin tonight. The banquet is always held as part of the GAA’s St.Patrick’s Day celebrations which culminate in the All-Ireland club finals on Sunday.
