The Gaelic Games Europe Health and Wellbeing Officer, Anna-Marie O’Rourke is one of the most experienced members of the European GAA community, having travelled the length and breadth of the continent as a player and coach with her club Rennes GAA, as a member of the European Committee and as a referee and tutor. Playing GAA in Europe often involves travelling huge distances, across several different countries and climates and any number of things can go wrong. Anna-Marie has probably seen it all, from forgotten or lost passports, to severe sunburns and heatstroke.
It was these experiences that prompted Anna-Marie to broach the subject of creating a document outlining everything needed to ensure that players are prepared before, during and after tournaments and how to ensure that both their physical and mental wellbeing are looked after. The creation of the document started within the Gaelic Games Europe Health and Wellbeing Subcommittee and after being trained as a Health and Wellbeing tutor by Croke Park, Anna presented their work so far to HQ who thought that it would be of great help to all international units of the GAA. Further collaboration with the GAA and the other international units resulted in the creation of the GAA Tournament Ready Toolkit.
We would like to thank Anna-Marie, the GAA, and everyone from across the international units who was involved in the creation of this extremely important and useful document.
