GGE Premier (15’s) Football Championship
Semi-finals (Sat.20/7) & Final (Sun.21/7) in Maastricht
Saturday, July 20th – Semi-finals
14:30 Berlin GAA v GSC Luxembourg
15:45 Belgium GAA v Eindhoven Shamrocks
Sunday, July 21st – Final
11:00 Berlin/Luxembourg V Belgium/Eindhoven
Four teams will battle it out over two days for the GGE Premier Championship on continental Europe’s only full-size GAA astroturf pitch when Maastricht Gaels host the semi-finals and final of Europe’s most prestigious men’s football championship on July 20th/21st.
Having defeated five-time champions Amsterdam GAC in an epic quarter-final on July 6th, GSC Luxembourg, who recently secured their third Benelux regional title in a row, will be confident of overcoming Berlin GAA . Coming off the back of a very successful season so far – having retained their Central-East regional title in Munich last month – the German side will make the long journey to Maastricht in an upbeat mood to do battle with the experienced Benelux champions
The rapidly improving Eindhoven lads reached last year’s final at their first attempt and finished 3rd in a tightly contested Benelux region this year. However, Belgium GAA are most people’s favourites to overcome the local Shamrocks team in the second semi-final. However they won’t have it easy as the Dutch boys are always competitive and the sight of their old Benelux rivals always brings out the best in them. They will be hoping to surprise their Belgian opponents and reach the final for a second time and then attempt to go one better than last year by clinching the title.
The semi-final winners will then have a short turnaround before meeting in Sunday’s final. The champions will represent Europe in the AIB Leinster Junior Club Championship first round in October in Dublin.
