Bailieboro to Bernabeu, Cavan to Champions League – Cillian Sheridan on kicking 35 yard points

Very few Irish players have had the success Cillian Sheridan has had on the road.  Arriving late to full-time football, he was thrown on to face Manchester United in Old Trafford aged only 19.

From Glasgow Celtic he moved to join Bulgarian powerhouse side CSKA Sofia and won the Bulgarian Cup, playing in the Europa League against FC Porto.  In Cyprus he won  2 League and Cup doubles and played against Ajax, PSG and Barcelona in the Champions League.

Now at his 2nd club in Poland, Wisla Plock, he’s also won 3 Senior caps for Ireland and faced Lionel Messi for one of those!  It could all have been so different had Cavan picked him or he’d taken up an offer to go play AFL.  However he is still determined to make Gaelic Football sexy again and be the anti-Jim McGuinness!

And in any case, his brilliant Twitter musings have set him on a further road – to Comedy Stand-Up.  Plus the answer to the age old question – Do Cavan people really travel well?
